SharePoint 2013 Installation – Internal Errors, Search, User Profile, Excel and PerformancePoint fail to setup

Recently, I had installation issues around search, user profile, excel, performancepoint while using AutoSPInstaller. Actually the problem appeared to be outside the known and trusted script we use quite often.

Another problem came when trying to use the cmdlet Mount-SPProjectDatabase, an internal error occured.

It turned out the client had FIPS Algorithms enabled, which is not supported by SharePoint 2010 or 2013. This can be disabled in the registry (and web config I understand), by going to;

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa\FipsAlgorithmPolicy

The key ‘Enabled’ should be set to 0 (zero). If it is set to 1, then it is enabled and no good.
